Parent feedback on the door entry - questions answered!
We are always grateful for parent feedback and have been asked a few questions recently about door entry.
Why isn’t the door answered straight away?
We have a remote doorbell in the nursery, which is moved around the building, e.g. if the children are in soft play or the sensory room. As pick up times vary widely, we do not interrupt the children’s play and we do not get them ready to leave until parents have arrived. It does take time to bring the children back to their rooms, collect their belongings and bring them down to you. We always hear the doorbell!!
Our operating hours are 7.30am to 6.30pm, with the half-day sessions ending/starting at 1.00pm each day. To ensure we meet our statutory requirements for staffing ratio’s it is very important that children are not dropped off early or collected late from their sessions.
Why aren’t we using the biometric door entry?
The biometrics on the internal door are fully operational and currently in use by the staff. However, we have identified that, if the external door is not closed properly or held open for other visitors, it is possible for both doors to be open at the same time, which could present a risk to the children. There is an automatic door closer on the internal door, but for the safety of the children going through the door it is on a slower closure.
As a result, we are in the process of having additional security purchased for the outer door, that will minimise this risk. We will keep you updated with the timeline once we have confirmation from our supplier. The safety of the children is of paramount importance to us and it is a priority to ensure that only authorised visitors can access our building.
Throughout the rest of the month, we will start to collect fingerprint/biometric data from parents, and update the system, in readiness for using the system.
Why can’t we come into the nursery?
As you know Covid restrictions have prevented access to the nursery, as we try to minimise the risk of infection. It is our intention, that once the outer door security is in place, and if Covid cases remain low, we will allow parents to make their own way into the building and wait in comfort, in the Parents Room. From there, you will be able to call up to the rooms and let us know you are there.
Final notes
We appreciate the frustration at waiting outside and also share them. Please continue to share your feedback with us, it is very important to us. We are here to support you and provide a safe and caring environment for your children.
See you soon!
